I am sorry to say that...

this is my last write up before I stand down as the AO for Derwent Valley as we hold our AGM on 3rd November when a new AO will be appointed. I have enjoyed my three years as AO. I have had some good laughs with everyone and lots of memorable moments.

A large group of the Derwent Valley gang attended the Mile of Triumphs and had a brilliant time. Thanks to Joe, Sue, Laurie, Mandy and the rest of the team for once again organising a great event and at the same time raising funds for a deserving charity. We managed to win two bears at the auction which are being cared for by Glennis and Mike who along with Anna and Stuart were celebrating Birthdays.

Colin thought his luck was in when he kept winning on the teddy bear stall until he was told it was a prize every time. He also insisted that home made chocolate cake and real ale are a fantastic combination for brunch, lunch and afternoon tea – well it was for charity!!!

The cars did not fair too well on the trip to Great Yarmouth. Stuart broke down on the way there and had to go home and fetch the modern. Angie’s Stag sprang a leak in the radiator and Mike’s Dolly after winning ‘Best Other Triumph’ kept over heating due to a electric fan failure. Well at least it will give them something to do this winter.

Our monthly meeting was a very good turn out, but not many Triumphs in the car park. John treated us to a multiple choice quiz (just like at school). A variety of questions ranging from the first question being ‘who was the founding member of the TSSC?’ to ‘what is the colour of Lala from the Teletubbies?’. The quiz resulted in a tie breaker between Richard’s team and Gary’s team. Gary was declared the winner after getting the question right. Well done to Gary and his team. Although Claire and Victoria, from Nott’s, tried so hard they still received the loser’s wooden spoon prize.

Good news for our charity the Derby, Leicester and Rutland Air Ambulance as the amount raised reach the total of £700 thanks to a kind donation of £79 from Stuart. Also thank you to all those who helped to raise the money over the past year. We plan to visit East Midlands Airport in the near future where representatives of both Derwent Valley and Notts Area will present the cheque at the Air Ambulance head quarters.

By the time you read this, there will be new Derwent Valley Bowl Area Champions, and have taken the magnificent trophy home with them. Sorry if it was not your area, but there is always next year.

Look out for the announcements in the Courier for next years Peak Run which is being held on 25th, 26th and 27th June 2010. We have secured a brand new “level” campsite with a function room on site – no more fighting to squeeze onto the mini bus!!!

Bye for now

Roger
